Community Guidelines
Marine Scrap Africa works because the people on it are serious about what they do. Sellers list real assets. Buyers engage with real intent. Deals are completed honestly on both sides. These guidelines exist to keep it that way.
List honestly or do not list at all
- Describe the asset accurately, including its condition and any known issues
- Use real photographs of the actual asset
- State the location correctly
- Remove a listing if the asset is no longer available
- Use stock images or photos of a different asset
- Misrepresent condition, quantity, or specifications
- List an asset you do not have the right to sell
- Post duplicate or placeholder listings
Keep conversations on the platform
- Use the platform inbox for all asset questions, terms, and inspection arrangements
- Be direct and professional
- Respond to enquiries within a reasonable time
- Share or request phone numbers, emails, or social media handles in messages
- Try to move a transaction off-platform to avoid fees or accountability
- Send unsolicited or irrelevant messages
- Be abusive, threatening, or deliberately obstructive
Commit to what you agree
- Only submit an offer if you are genuinely ready to proceed
- Provide accurate payment references and documentation
- Raise concerns about an asset before confirming payment
- Carry out your own due diligence, including inspection
- Submit false payment details or fabricated references
- Repeatedly cancel agreed deals without good reason
- Pressure the other party into faster decisions than the situation warrants
Be who you say you are
- Do not create accounts under false names or impersonate another person or company
- Do not create multiple accounts to manipulate listings or platform behaviour
- Do not share your account credentials with others
What happens if these are breached
We review listings before they go live and keep an eye on conduct that falls short of these guidelines. We take a proportionate approach — depending on the situation, we may remove a listing, issue a warning, restrict account access, or remove an account permanently. Where fraud or serious misconduct is involved, we may refer the matter to the relevant authorities.
If you believe another user is acting in bad faith, contact us at with details of what happened.
These guidelines sit alongside our Terms of Service. Where there is a conflict, the Terms take precedence. We will update these as the platform grows.
